Make A/W 17 work for you with my round-up of some of the best beauty trends and how to achieve them.
With beauty halls, fashion shows, Instagram, Snapchat and magazines full to brim with fantastic new seasonal products, we are spoilt for choice as the weather changes. As always, we have deep burgundy and berry colours – which I must say I am a huge fan of every winter – but also, bright colours like blue and green are everywhere and are staying to brighten up our winter. If you don’t want a full overhaul and are happy with your makeup but would like to add a little update to your look I think nails are a good place to start, or perhaps a dark berry lip on a night out. Do remember that trends won’t suit us all, but we will certainly enjoy trying them out on these long winter nights!
Think 1980s Dallas and Dynasty when it comes to your nails: very long, deeply coloured and embellished with anything and everything. There are so many brands to chose from it is hard to select just one but you can’t go wrong with this dark glossy berry Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Cabernet with BAE. Priced from €9.99
A nod to the ‘90s they might be, but dark lips are easier than ever to wear and add a whole new level of drama to your everyday look. There’s a shade out there to suit all lip sizes and shapes. The cherry wine colour can make thin lips appear thinner, but by using the correct products you can achieve that perfect pout. Always line the entire area to keep lipstick in place, blot lip and then apply your favourite lippie and / or gloss. Maybelline New York has a great option: Superstay Matte Ink Lip Colour in Creator, from €12.25
Hats off to Penneys – their cosmetic range just keeps getting better and better and the wait is finally over for these highly-anticipated PS CustomEyes Build-Your-Own Eye Palette. They did not disappoint with the excellent array of colour choice, wonderful pigmentation and strong durability. You can pick up a 4-pan or 9 pan empty palette and fill it in with eyeshadows that cost €1. Yes, that’s right – they’re one Euro each and you have a fantastic range of 30 to choose from!
‘Kontouring’, ‘cut crease’ eye make-up and a tonne of concealer have been staples in the beauty blog-o-sphere for yonks. But there was a distinctive lack of all three on the A/W catwalks. In their place? Soft focus make-up and diffused edges – no harsh lines in sight and natural-looking cheekbone-cheaters. Sleek Makeup Barekissed Illuminator with light-reflecting properties (that aren’t glittery!) comes in four shades to suit all skin types and tones. It can be worn alone or mixed in with your foundation to give a subtle dewy finish. Prices start at €11.49
A fake tan that makes you appear slimmer? What’s the catch?! There is none with this brand-new Skinny Tan which has just recently landed in Ireland and is available on the shelfs at Boots, with prices starting at €11.99. Already a best-seller in Australia and the UK, this self-tanner is the first to combine a natural tanning agent with skin smoothing ingredients to tan, contour and help reduce the visible signs of cellulite.
